Very easy to order and the free download was a bonus although not to my own taste in music CD was bought as a present. I was big fan of Fleetwood Mac with Peter Green but I saw this 'Kiln House' line up of the group live at Liverpool University before the album came out and they were very very good. Although this probably soundboard live recording is only just about OK, the vocals are all a bit weak and the set only features two songs from the actual Kiln House LP - 'Station Man' and 'Honey Hush' Hi Ho Silver with the rest being a collection of odds and sods including Jeremy's old blues numbers I remember a great version of 'Preaching the blues' when I saw them , rock and roll songs and numbers featuring Christine being eased into the set.

Danny Kirwan's 'Purple dancer' features both good lead guitar and surprisingly good vocals from Danny although not a patch on 'Jewel eyed Judy' from the record. I found this an interesting record which brought back a lot of memories but it doesn't really show the band to their best advantage and although I love Christine McVie's voice she obviously hadn't totally settled into the group at this point.

Although some people like to portray British blues as too serious and po-faced Fleetwood Mac always entertained with lots of rock and roll numbers, piss-takes and Jeremy's oddball humour and at least this album shows that side of the band. However, this record is really only for Fleetwood Mac completists others would be better getting the 'Kiln House' album which is well-recorded and features many of the elements from this live set but better rehearsed and with much better sound.

    Missing lyrics by Fleetwood Mac?

Christine McVie, who participates throughout the concert, was not an official member of Fleetwood Mac at this time but was acting in a guest capacity. Jeremy and Danny were attempting to fill the gap by expanding their vocals and guitar contributions.

They were also introducing more of their self penned material. The remaining selections are primarily blues standards credited to Son House, Elmore James, etc. It's not an exceptionally strong number, material wise, and her vocal chops, although interesting, lack the authority and maturity aptly demonstrated on her later work. Other then this selection, her contributions are limited to keyboards and background vocals. The true pleasure is listening to the emerging talent of Kirwan and Spencer as the prominent performers within Fleetwood Mac.

This is not taking anything away from John McVie and Mick Fleetwood, who are without doubt, one of the best rhythm sections in Rock n Roll. However, realizing that Spencer would abruptly exit the group within weeks of this concert and that Kirwan's performances would be soon severely compromised by his emerging health issues, make this recorded performance invaluable.

It is a compilation of BBC session tracks and live concert material from the band's first post- Peter Green line up, none of which had previously been officially released. It is unusual within Fleetwood Mac's catalogue as it focuses on the period between the successful Peter Green period and the start of the Bob Welch period which eventually led to another successful period for the band in the mid to late s. The release also included four tracks by the Christine Perfect Band, which was planned as a project for Christine Perfect in , after her brief solo career.

This was later abandoned and she joined Fleetwood Mac in the summer of This boxed release should not be confused with another Fleetwood Mac compilation album of the same name, a single disc released in , which consists of selected material from the Live in Boston concerts. Madison Blues has since been repackaged several times as single disc releases. Perfect Days and Perfect in Every Way are identical compilations of tracks from disc one of this set; while Crazy About the Blues and Preaching the Blues are identical to discs one and two of Madison Blues respectively.

Tracks 10—16 on disc one were recorded live in concert in , and disc two was recorded live in concert in January , shortly before Jeremy Spencer left the band in February.
