One of the unique features of Path Finder is its use of customizable shelves and modules. Shelves are viewing panes arranged along the bottom and right side of the Path Finder window. Each viewing pane can be configured to show any Path Finder module. Modules are used to show various types of information about files or folders that are selected in Path Finder. Some of the modules available include file info, preview, selection path, tags, and ratings; there's even a Terminal module that runs the Terminal app in its own embedded pane.
Altogether, there are 18 modules to choose from, and each is customizable for how it works.
One of the benefits of this approach is that you can have a bird's eye view of just about anything file-related, without having to change views or open special windows. I like to have the preview module available at all times; it gives me a Quick Look-type view of the file I've selected, no matter what view I'm using. Path Finder 7 has too many features to run down here. Suffice it to say that if you have needs beyond the capabilities of the standard Finder, Path Finder can probably take care of them for you.
Path Finder is a standalone app. It doesn't replace the Finder; you can have both a Finder window and Path Finder windows open. But as you get used to Path Finder, you'll probably discover that you'll use the Finder less often. The more you tinker with it, the more options you'll find, which may either delight or confuse you, depending on how much of a geek you are.
Cocoatech’s Path Finder 8 is a Great macOS Finder Replacement
Editors' note: This is a review of the trial version of Path Finder for Mac 6. If you've ever wished Apple's Finder just did feature X or feature Y, Path Finder may be what you've been looking for. Path Finder is a standalone application that leverages what you already know about working with your files. It takes the Finder's familiar interface and adds numerous powerful features and interface innovations to help anyone be more productive on Mac OS X. The update also includes picture-in-picture to watch videos while you scroll and block.
The revised proposal raises the cap on the number of sites that an ad blocker can block. A new feature in Chrome will better hide your Incognito session so websites can't detect it.
It was buggy and crashed a lot. I gave up on it pretty quick. Cut to 9 years later, get a Mac at work after having gone back to Windows because reasons. Looking for a Finder replacement because it still sucks and come upon a Pathfinder recommendation. Figure in 9 or so years, they must have worked out the bugs. Should be good now. Within minutes of use, it freezes up and pretty much locks up my system for 3 or 4 minutes before I can Force Quit.
Try again, it does it again. What an unmitigated piece of junk and somehow they've been foisting this bug-ridden crap on people for almost a decade. Was this review helpful? If I could get it to work I might be able to publish something positive about the product This had difficult installing, then would not work once installed.
The developers have not been able to resolve this over the month or so they've known about it Try to install - if it doesn't work uninstall and wait a few months until they get this problem resolved. No sense wasting your time on someone else's problem Reply to this review Read reply 1. It only downloaded the "CNET installer" and nothing else! This also happened with other programs.
When I open the installer, it says it couldn't download or install the program, great! Let us just install the programs ourselves, as we've been doing for years! I uninstalled Pathfinder thru various uninstallers.

I don't want to install Pathfinder again. I have been trying out Path Finder 5. In general it seems like a good power-user tool. The progress bar indicted that the copy was GB and when I looked in the destination folder the directory structure was getting scrambled. Files and folders where in the wrong locations. Because Path Finder screwed up something so simple folder copy I have lost faith in this tool. This makes one think that it could do serious damage to your data.

I will be uninstalling it. Pathfinder is smoother and allows me to clean trash files from thumb drives, copy and move with a single window and much more. Seems like every OS needs an aftermarket dual-pane tabbed file manager interface. This is the 'big gun' for the Mac OS. If you're offline you won't be able to view help videos.
If you're a windows convert and were using xplorer2 this is the closest thing you'll find on the mac. To the developer: Maybe 'PathFinderMac'? I haven't really found any cons.
